TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEER

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Telecommunication Engineer to join either our Rochester or Binghamton teams to lead and work on various telecommunication projects within the Electric Distribution and Transmission business units.

• Develop both non-complex and complex telecommunications (LAN/WAN) projects
• Support capital project design and owner's engineer scope of work
• Determine telecom criteria/requirements for capital and/or customer-funded projects for T&D utility
• Conduct project evaluation, feasibility, and planning reviews
• Perform contract reviews (non-legal)
• Monitor construction progress and equipment/material compliance with specifications
• Conduct engineering design and planning reviews
• Perform schedule analysis and optimization
• Oversee equipment commissioning and verification tests
• Conduct operational and maintenance reviews
• Perform cost/benefit analysis
• Provide general reporting to customers based on technical and business competence
• Collaborate with Operations and OT departments to propose and execute changes and improvements to the AMI Wide Area Network (WAN) and Neighborhood Area Network (NAN) and other complex metering networks
• Plan and engineer telecom infrastructure with an emphasis on resilient connectivity for Smart Metering and SCADA services
• Provide engineering functions/solutions to support the telecom engineering for capital projects

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Telecommunications Network Engineering experience
• Solid technical background with experience with Telecom WAN technologies
• Networking and understanding of routing, DHCP, VPN technologies, and architecture required
• Experience with network tools including SSH, traceroute, ping, required
• Understanding of network security and firewall concepts, radio networks and firmware updates preferred
• Knowledge of electric and/or gas utility operations preferred
• PE certification preferred
• Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science or related field

Location: Hybrid office/remote in Rochester, NY or Binghamton, NY

S alary: $72,000 - $102,000- commensurate with experience
